I contacted Capel directly by email to commission an armillary to commemorate the founding members of our technology company.
After various conversations by phone Capel came to visit us to view where the armillary was to be positioned and discuss logistics. This was incredibly helpful and we narrowed down the exact location for the sundial, what metal to use and critically what size dial would be most appropriate.
Within a matter of weeks from agreeing the final details of the engravings Capel was back on site to install the armillary sphere. This was quite a feat as the plinth alone weighed in at over 250kg, Capel and his team winched the block of solid Purbeck stone into place right in the centre of the atrium.
We were very grateful that Capel managed to keep the sphere covered during the installation as we had planned a grand unveiling later in the day. The weather was kind to us and the armillary sphere looked magnificent reflected in the glass facade of the building.
It now stands sentinel in the atrium as a fitting tribute to those who founded the company and is part of our fine history.

Capel could not have been more helpful when it came to installing our armillary sphere.
The Armillary Sphere was to be positioned up a winding set of steps. Our garden is arranged on a steep slope with a flat area and water feature at the top, the armillary sphere was to be the central feature of this area. Capel brought a team of three with a mini dumper, they built a series of wooden ramps over the steps and methodically manoeuvred the 250kg stone plinth up to the top, it was a tight squeeze!
We are delighted with the final result and our Armillary Sphere resides in pride of place. We love the stainless steel which reflects the garden beautifully even on a dull day. I would highly recommend Border Sundials for their professionalism and attention to detail.
